Project update

Looking good amongst the Autumn leaves (it's Winter - why are they still here?)

Just a brief update on the progress of E225CMV. Regular readers may recall that an indicator lens had left us on the M42 en route home, and as such the indicator unit needed replacement. My old mate Doug, who had been in the car with me when the lens left us, parted with his last nearside indicator unit on Thursday night for my car, and whilst I was at his place I decided to get his opinion on what I thought was a very low idle speed – the automatic choke is meant to maintain an idle of between 650 and 750rpm, yet mine was idling at no more than 600rpm when warm. A bit of tweakery-pokery from Doug later, and some very keen watching and learning from me, the car was running fairly well. I’ve since made some minor tweaks myself and it’s about spot on, I’d say.

There is, however, still a fairly big list of jobs that needs to be done, and also a list of jobs I want to do.

  • Source a rear seatbelt stalk to replace the broken lapbelt.
  • Source and spray a new grille – mine has a broken clip and lifting lacquer.
  • Repair the dent and rust on the offside front wing – this’ll be after the bad weather so as not to invoke Sod’s Law
  • Source and replace the front door speakers – one has blown and the other’s probably about to.
  • Repair my very stiff central locking – this involves taking the door cards off and giving everything a damn good clean so will be done when I sort the speakers.
  • Try and find a cure for rattly door lock pegs – I’m told there isn’t one but whilst the door cards are off I’ll have a look around.

The stuff that ain’t necessary? Well, I’ll be keeping it under my hat for now. But it’s going to be good.
